The Clymer manaul was written back in the 1980's - but it still applies in 99% of the service applications for all Savages - the conversion to a 5 speed transmission is the only significant change Suzuki has made over the years.

Have you considered going to your local library and asking them to bring in a Clymer Manual on inter library loan? I guess most folks forget what a resource a library can be.

You can significantly reduce the backfiring by paying close attention to your throttle controls - when decelerating - make sure you close the throttle entirely - no gradual slowing down - it is those partial throttle decelerations that pumps the fuel into the hot exhaust with such noisie results.

I solved most of my backfiring by openning or closing the throttle with this modified technique - when I am accelerating I use the throttle necessary - when decelerating - I close the throttle completelly - and I do this every time - I get a couple of wffs per week with this technique and rarely get a pop
